The life of being an immortal deity isn't always it's cracked up to being, always lots of wars, fights, jealousy, cheating, in short a ton of bull shit to deal with that don't always make up for being an all-powerful deity. Psyche loved Eros dearly, even though he tended to have way more demigod children than she cared to, she tried desperately not to see it as him being unfaithful. After some decades of him having offspring with mortals, Psyche found herself pregnant with Eros' child and she was overjoyed, finally she would be giving him a child. Up until now she had only one child with Eros, Hedone.
Now at this point I find it prudent to back track just slightly, in order for you to truly appreciate what is going to happen next. A few months before Psyche found herself pregnant (as Goddesses take less time than mortals), Eros had yet again dated and impregnated a mortal woman in Paris, France, one of Eros' favourite cities. Her name is unimportant, but I suppose if you really must know the only thing known about her was that she was a high priced escort, much much more than a simple paid prostitute. Her clients were only very rich people who needed her to look good, keep her mouth shut and her legs open. Some of her clients would pay for the "boyfriend experience", people wanting more than just sex but a fake semblance of "true love", even though there was nothing true about it. Eros found her capacity to "fake" being in love with people so convincingly, but never falling herself, intriguing, and also a bit of a challenge. He decided to try to get her to fall in love with him, so he posed as a client and paid her lots of money. The name she gave him was Antoinette Lune. She was blonde and absolutely gorgeous, reminded Eros a bit of her namesake, the Madame de Pompadour, aka Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, a former lover of Eros' back in the 1700s (and also the official chief mistress of Louis XV).
Skylar was not the first pregnancy that she had dealt with in the past, but her attempt to abort him failed, which was most certainly unusual. So she carried to term with the intention of giving him up for adoption and even went so far as to go on "holiday" the last few months of the pregnancy in order to keep it a secret from her clients.
Now here is where things get a teensy bit complicated. You see during the time both mothers were pregnant with Eros' child there was also some fresh fights going on between Aphrodite (Eros' mother) and her husband and lover Ares and Hephaestus. Usually Psyche tried to stay out of it, but this time, long story short, she got embroiled into it when she was the one that caught Aphro and Ares together. Aphrodite asked Eros to make sure Heph didn't find out, but Psyche told Eros Aphrodite was in the wrong and he had to. It was all just such a high school drama filled mess. However, when it's gods you're dealing with and not teens, things get blown out of proportion to obscene proportions. When it came time for Psyche to give birth she was alone, Ares had been watching and waiting for her to go into labour, so he could take his anger out on her when she was at her weakest. He cursed her while she was giving birth and left her, assuming that the baby would now die stillborn.
Psyche did indeed miscarry, but only she was there to see and know for sure. She was distraught, depressed, angry, all sorts of things. She had wanted another child with Eros so badly. She decided to look up Eros' last conquest in secret and quickly. To her surprise and excitement, the woman was in the process of abandoning her newborn son. All she wanted was right there in a tiny blanket, Eros' child. She took the abandoned child and named him Alreus. Of course at this age the fact that he was really just a demigod wouldn't matter, when it came to gods having children it was always a crapshoot if they would end up another god or just a nymph, or on even rarer occasions mortal (very VERY rare). She would have plenty of time she figured before anyone even suspected the truth.
When Ares found that his curse/attack had not succeeded in her losing her child, he was both shocked and annoyed. By that time his anger and desire for vengeance had subsided slightly, but he was so sure that he'd worked the curse perfectly, the child should NOT have lived, but there it was, little bundle of squalling needy baby alive and well. He was determined to get to the bottom of what had happened after he left, and he started going around questioning oracles, and other gods, and fates and anyone he could think of. This went on for years behind Psyche's back.
Four years of raising little Alreus, Ares finally had the proof he needed, and when he found out the extent to what the truth really was, he was shocked and a bit angry. The idea that she was raising a demigod and trying to pass him off as Eros and her own son was repulsive to him. Sure it wasn't breaking any rules as it was her raising him and not Eros, and she was not the birth mother, it didn't break Zeus' non-interference rule, but it couldn't be that easy to work around, it just couldn't. It simply wasn't fair to the rest of them with demigod children. He went to Zeus with his evidence. Eros was shocked and horrified at what his wife had done, but being the god of love, he also understood why she did it. He defended her to Zeus and promised he would set things straight. Afraid that at 4 Alreus would already have memories he'll remember later of being up on Olympus, Hecate stepped in and performed a memory spell contained in a locket. As long as the locket stayed whole, he would never remember the first 4 1/2 years of his life, but if the locket was ever broken specifically with either a magical spell or by a special Stygian Iron sword that resides in Hades' palace in the Underworld, the memories would return.
After that Eros made sure that the boy was taken to a special group home for abandoned children in Paris, France. He posed as a police officer and said that the bos parents were killed in a fire, and he was the only survivor. He told them that all he knew about the child was that his last name was Lune, so someone at the orphanage gave him the first name Skylar when they applied for his new paper work, where all his old things were "lost in the fire."
He was a quiet child at first, and got picked on a lot for it, then as other children were adopted out and not him, he was picked on even more for being the "child that no one wanted." It's hard to say why children didn't like him, I mean mortals can't sense demigods, but perhaps there was some remnant left over from having survived a curse at birth and then another spell to have his memory concealed. Sort of like an odour you can't quite figure out but you know you don't like it. He did make a couple of friends, a young guy that volunteered to help the kids and a woman who tutored them, both seemed to be in their 20s, but neither of them treated Skylar like an outcast. By the age of 12 they were the only two that Skylar would listen to. He had been bullied and treated like shit for so long at some point something snapped and he just stopped caring, or at least he pretended he didn't care. He put on a mask and did and said anything he wanted to, whether it was legal or not. He'd date girls, cheat on them, he was quite the little player for only being 12 years old.
When his first monster attack happened his only two friends were revealed to be a demigod and a satyr. The Satyr, Travis, and the Demigod a child of Pandia Maria, were there when the hellhound attacked and stepped right into help. They tried to explain the truth, and when they did it was almost as if Eros had been waiting for just this moment, and instead of waiting for Skylar to go to camp (probably cuz Eros was a bit guilty for letting his memories be erased) he claimed him right there in front of Travis and Maria, and a package appeared with a note in weapons. Of course the note only revealed "some" of the truth about Skylar, his demigod mother and all that, but none about what happened with Psyche. Skylar didn't think he liked the sounds of camp, he said it sounded stuffy, said he didn't want to go yet. Maria and Travis decided to stick around and train them best as they could and just hoped that if the monsters got too big that they'd finally convince him to go.
A few months later they were adopted by an older couple who already had 4 kids of their own, but had always wanted more and the woman was no longer able to have kids biologically. Fortunately they didn't live far from the group home, so Travis and Maria were still able to look out for him and train him. Between ages 12 and 17 Skylar would party, have indiscriminate sex as often as possible, dabble in drugs (mostly pot), drink a TON and basically be a huge pain in his adoptive parents asses. Finally at 17 they threatened that they'd send him to military school if he didn't shape up, he didn't like the sound of that, so finally he felt that this camp that Travis and Maria were always going on about sounded better than forced Military school, so he packed up his shit and ran away from home.
For the next few years at camp, if nothing else, the partying and sex just became more frequent. He'd date, cheat, date again, cheat again, drink, party, drink, party. Someone even decided he'd make a good Head Counsellor in early 2012, though some would probably say he gets by cuz a few of his siblings pick up the slack and support him despite his slacker partying ways. Then in late 2013 while partying it up for the weekend in Atlantic City, he being VERY drunk actually ran into a VERY drunk and VERY upset Psyche who was drowning her sadness in Rum. (Her and Eros had a fight). Skylar hit on her, she decided why not, and when Eros found out about it he was furious. All he could think about was that Psyche raised Skylar as her son, and he slept with her, granted he didn't know but still didn't change Eros' anger or guilt over it all. On impulse he decided to curse Skylar into a kitten for a few weeks (about all he could get away with, without Zeus getting on his case about non-interference shit) to learn a lesson about sleeping around. Skylar still doesn't know that Psyche tried to raise him as her son, and the locket that he was left with at 4 is buried somewhere in a box in Skylar's very messy room.
