Personality
Katelynn is by nature an optimist, eager to see the bright side of life. She's an idealist, but has been doing her best to see what is rather than what could be, but she still dreams in her spare time. She's irritatingly persistent and sometimes lacks the maturity of someone her age, acting like she was about five years younger than she is at present, tending to only truly regain that maturity in training or conflict, but that's mostly because of a protective instinct or natural competitivity. She can be a narcissist at times, but a good pinch can often bring her back to reality from wherever her mind roamed.
History
Katelynn Emerson had always been the outdoorsy type. Born in San Diego, California, she always had the chance to spend plenty of time outside and in the sun. Francesca and Jacques Emerson had pretty full-on jobs, so the parental figures to Katelynn possibly weren't as close to her as they should have been. Their first house was just behind a beach, so from the moment she could walk, she was sat on the sand and building suncastles, but shied away from the water. Her favourite part, easily, was the sunshine.
She developed an affinity very quickly for evading the application of sun cream. For good reason, too, or at least that was her mindset. Her parents were horrified, but for some weird reason Katelynn just didn't burn, and she'd inherited her father's pale skin. They thought nothing of it - Katelynn spent so much time on the beach they blamed it on some kind of adaptation. She doesn't remember exactly when everything else started happening, only it was synonymous to the time when she was kicked out and went to live with her then-boyfriend, Lukas, and that was at around 16.
Katelynn moved around, depending on who would have her, whether that was her current significant other, or a family relative in Denver or Washington or somewhere else in the world, and those were often distant relatives so they didn't know anything about her. Katelynn found herself in London at the age of 19, living off a fifth-cousin seven times removed that she seemed to get on with okay. (No, it's not freeloading, it's just her being generous right?) She got a part time job in a French restaurant, and she was working when the zombie attack began. She ended up having to take the hard way out, unable to return to America. A member of the X-Men (apparently actually sent to find her) took her back to America, where she now resides. America has always been Katelynn's home.
